Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ 2

The Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2 made its debut at the 1964 Turin Auto Show, displayed prominently at the Zagato stand. 🚗 This new iteration was a significant evolution of the original TZ, featuring a fiberglass body that was even lighter and more aerodynamic than its predecessor. 🌬️ Zagato designed the body to fit tightly around the chassis, reducing drag and bringing the car’s weight down to just 620 kg (1,370 lbs). ⚖️

The TZ2 was built exclusively for racing, 🏁 equipped with a 1.6-liter DOHC straight-4 engine prepared by Autodelta. This engine featured twin-spark ignition and dry sump lubrication, producing approximately 170 bhp at 7,000 rpm, allowing the car to reach a top speed of 245 km/h (152 mph). ⚡ A notable design change from the original TZ was the rear window, which was simplified from a three-part configuration to a single unit. 🔍

Despite its promising design and performance, development of the TZ series was halted at the end of 1965 to focus on Alfa Romeo’s new GTA racing program. As a result, only 13 units of the TZ2 were ever built. 🔧

In 2009, the TZ2 earned significant recognition by winning the prestigious Gran Turismo Trophy at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. 🏆
