  • Valkyrie comes as close as possible to a Formula One car without being restricted to the track. Valkyrie is Aston Martin’s first ever hypercar, only 150 road cars will be made.

Only 99 to 150 of the street legal cars will be made along with 25 additional cars made specifically for racing tracks.

A company executive allegedly showed off a design book of images and details about the Newey-designed “Project AM-RB 001”

The car, codenamed “Nebula” will be powered by a naturally-aspirated, 7.0-litre V12 that will rev to almost 10,000 rpm and produce around 1,000 horsepower.

The power-to-weight ratio will be mind boggling as well, as the source continued saying that the hypercar will weigh around 2,300 pounds (1043 kg), and it’ll have a body designed with “a massive amount of negative space”, and without any wings or spoilers.

Red Bull Advanced Technologies Newey’s Formula 1 expertise, as its underside will sport “venturi channels” flowing to an “upside-down jigsaw wing, sticking the car to the ground with the air flowing in through the iconic Aston Martin mouth.

The ‘innovation partnership’ will see Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey, and Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, collaborate on project ‘AM-RB 001’, which will combine cutting-edge F1 technology with Aston Martin’s signature design.

To celebrate the partnership, Red Bull Racing’s F1 cars will carry the iconic Aston Martin wings logo throughout the 2016 season, making their debut at this weekend’s Australian round at Albert Park in Melbourne.

“This is a very exciting project for everyone at Red Bull Racing,” said team principal Christian Horner. “Through this Innovation Partnership the iconic Aston Martin logo will return to Grand Prix racing for the first time since 1960, and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, led by Adrian, will be using Formula One DNA to produce the ultimate of all road cars.”

Having an illustrious F1 career spanning nearly 30 years, and as the designer of ten world championship-winning cars, the partnership represents a new challenge for Newey.

Aston Martin’s only previous involvement in F1 came between 1959 and 1960 when, after huge success in sports cars, they attempted to transition to Grand Prix racing.

Aston Martin unveiled the “Project “Nebula” AM-RB 001” summer 2016.

Aston Martin DP100 Concept

Built around a carbon-fiber structure, it doesn’t rely on big wings and scoops to create downforce.Adrian Newey has used a complex weave of stationary underbody components to create downforce, giving chief designer Marek Reichman free rein to make the body fit in with the classic Aston aesthetic.

All of this complex design and forward-thinking aerodynamics is thanks, in part, to the tight restrictions placed on Formula 1 designers. For every one of Newey’s innovations, there’s a rule tweak or restriction to stop it giving Red Bull an advantage. Road cars aren’t constrained by such draconian rules about diffusers and downforce, opening the door for one of the world’s great aerodynamicists to see his wildest repressed visions come to life.

Adrian Newey, Red Bull’s Chief Technology Officer and the man who started the whole project, confirms the track-only variant will be as fast as an LMP1 racer. And that its road-going sister will be only slightly slower. That means that the ultimate version of the 001 will have to be around 20 seconds a lap quicker around the full Silverstone circuit than a McLaren P1 or Porsche 918.

Much of that will be down to the extraordinary aerodynamics of the car. The central teardrop passenger compartment makes it look like a Group C racer, but we’re assured this is big enough for two occupants. There’s a central underfloor keel with huge channels behind the front wheels. The rear incorporates an integrated wing element.
