The Sabre is the most powerful non-hybrid McLaren road car ever built, beating out the open-top Elva by 20 horsepower. According to McLaren Beverly Hills, it’s been homologated exclusively to U.S. federal standards, with “ideas and innovations that global homologation would not permit.” To us, it looks like a mashup between the company’s three-seater Speedtail and its Senna GTR track car.

Just 15 Sabres will be built, all already allocated to customers in the United States. Designed with help from McLaren’s Special Operations division, buyers were given the chance to drive a Sabre development car around Thermal Club’s private race track in California
