It is predominantly constructed using carbon fiber, contributing to its lightweight and high-performance attributes.

Initially, the Zonda was set to bear the name “Fangio F1” in honor of Formula One champion Juan Manuel Fangio. However, following his passing in 1995, the car was renamed “Zonda” after the Zonda wind, a term signifying a hot air current above Argentina.

The Zonda’s evolution included the following model variants:

1. Zonda C12: The Zonda C12, introduced at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, was powered by a 6.0 L Mercedes-Benz M120 V12 engine with outputs of either 400 PS or 450 PS. It could accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.0 seconds.
2. Zonda C12-S: The C12-S featured a 7.0 L V12 engine producing 550 PS and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 208 mph.
3. Zonda S 7.3: Introduced in 2002, this variant incorporated a larger naturally aspirated V12 engine with 555 PS, 750 N·m of torque, and better handling with traction control and ABS.
4. Zonda Roadster: A convertible version of the Zonda S 7.3 was unveiled in 2003, promising no loss in performance despite a minimal weight gain of 30 kg. A total of 40 roadsters were produced.
5. Zonda F: Debuting at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, the Zonda F, or Zonda Fangio, featured a re-engineered 7.3 L AMG V12 engine with enhanced performance and aerodynamics. Only 25 units were manufactured.
6. Zonda Roadster F: Sharing specifications with the coupe, the Zonda Roadster F featured a removable carbon fiber roof and increased engine output to 650 PS. Production was limited to 25 units.
7. Zonda R: The track-only Zonda R was introduced in 2007 and was a performance-oriented variant of the Zonda built for racing enthusiasts.
8. Zonda Cinque: Meaning “five” in Italian, the Zonda Cinque was a road-legal version of the Zonda R with a 6-speed automated manual gearbox, improved aerodynamics, and more power. Only five units were produced.
9. Zonda Tricolore: Developed as a tribute to Italy’s aerobatic team, the Frecce Tricolori, the Zonda Tricolore featured unique bodywork and distinctive styling elements. Only three units were produced.
10. Zonda Revolución: Introduced in 2012, the Zonda Revolución was an evolution of the Zonda R, designed for ultimate performance on the track.
11. Zonda HP Barchetta: Unveiled in 2017, this model was created to celebrate Horacio Pagani’s 60th birthday and the 18th anniversary of the Zonda. It featured a barchetta body style, unique exterior design cues, and a powerful naturally aspirated 7.3 L V12 engine, making it the most powerful road-legal Zonda ever.

The Pagani Zonda also saw racing versions, including the Zonda GR, which was developed for competition. The Zonda GR featured a modified carbon fiber chassis, improved aerodynamics, and a racing-oriented engine producing around 600 hp.

The Pagani Zonda is a testament to the marriage of Italian craftsmanship and engineering excellence, creating a legacy in the world of high-performance sports cars.
